One World, Thirty Tales

30 Folk Tales from Around the World

A2–B1 · Bilingual reader

Humanity's oldest stories, retold in learner's German. The tales come from every corner of the world, from Greece and India, Japan and Nigeria, Mexico and the Philippines, organised into six world regions. Every retelling is an original text, written freshly for this book and graded for levels A2 and B1.

Every story appears first in German, then a vocabulary section, then the full English version, and finally five questions to check your understanding. The vocabulary list gives you the words worth keeping, with their articles and plurals, and the separable verbs and expressions that are difficult to look up.

The stories rise gently in difficulty. The first tales are short and simple, the later ones longer and richer. You do not have to read them in order, but the order is designed to build your confidence as you go.
